Vice President: Arroyo illness a reflection of her hard work
Vice President Noli de Castro on Thursday evening called President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo being stricken with the flu, for which she was brought to the hospital in the afternoon, as indicative of her hard work. âThe Presidentâs health problem is a reflection of the hard work sheâs doing for the country. Itâs a challenge for us in the Cabinet and those in the government to work harder so as to relieve some of the burden from the Presidentâs shoulders," De Castro said in a statement. The vice president also urged Mrs. Arroyo to take a âmuch needed rest to avoid further complications of her illness." Mrs. Arroyo was brought to St. Lukes Medical Center in Quezon City on Thursday at about 5 p.m. after complaining of flu-like symptoms. St. Lukeâs medical director Joven Cuanang diagnosed Mrs. Arroyo with influenza and recommended bed rest for her for 48 hours. Palace officials earlier in the day said Mrs. Arroyo was ill but that she did not want to visit any hospital and opted to "rest" instead at Malacañang Palace. Last June 23, Mrs. Arroyo was also rushed to St. Lukeâs after complaining of stomach pains. She was later diagnosed with acute infectious diarrhea and then stayed in the hospital for two days.-GMANews.TV
