DTI warns vs buying of substandard Christmas lights

MANILA, Philippines - With the 100-day countdown to Christmas having begun, the Trade department warned consumers Tuesday to be wary of Christmas lights being sold at "3 for P100" prices. Radio dzBB's Lito Laparan reported that Trade assistant secretary Angel Pelayo said such lights may be substandard and may be prone to overheating and start fires. Pelayo said such commodities are usually made of thin wires that may overheat quickly, especially if left on overnight. She said consumers who buy Christmas lights should look for the Philippine Product Standard (PS) or Import Clearance Commodity (ICC) seals. - GMANews.TV
