Ship quartermaster killed in freak accident in Manila
MANILA, Philippines - Police are investigating the death of a ship quartermaster who fell into the water following a freak accident aboard his ship off Pier 10 in Manila. Radio dzBB's Louie Garcia reported Thursday that the victim, intilly identified as Arnel Lumangad, 31, who sustained a gash on his forehead. Lumangad's body was recovered from the water before dawn Thursday. He hit the concrete part of the pier during his fall. Initial investigation showed Lumangad was inspecting cargo aboard the MV Windstar and pulled on a rope that he thought was secure. But the rope gave way and he fell into the water. Homicide investigator SPO4 Virgo Villareal said they are now checking for possible signs of foul play, which he said they cannot discount at this time. - GMANews.TV
