Seaman plunges to death from ship at Manila’s North Harbor


MANILA, Philippines — A seaman from Bohol province died Wednesday after falling from the railing of a ship and plunging onto the seawall in Manila’s North Harbor, police said on Thursday. The fatality was identified as Arnel Lumanas, 31, an operator master from barangay Malayo Sur in Cortes town of Bohol province. Lumanas died on the spot of severe head injury, said Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal of the Manila Police District (MPD) - Homicide Section. Villareal said the incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday while the MB Windstar was docked at Pier 10 in Tondo, Manila. Nelmar Lucero, the Windstar's captain, said that the victim was pulling a rope from the ship when he lost his balance and fell from the railing of the ship, hitting directly the cemented seawall head first. Philippine Coast Guard divers who retrieved the victim out of the water found him lifeless, police said.. Police are trying to determine the liability of the officials and owner of the said vessel. - GMANews.TV
