Alaska Milk assures products safe from melamine
MANILA, Philippines - Alaska Milk Corp., makers of brand names under Alaska, Carnation, Alpine, Milkmaid and Liberty, on Tuesday assured the public that its products are safe from the toxic melamine substance. In a statement, Alaska said "the milk situation in China does not in anyway affect the company." "Alaska Milk has never imported from China skimmed milk powder as an ingredient in any of its products," said Santiago Polido, Alaska Milk vice president for corporate affairs. Polido said the company locally manufactures and distributes liquid, powdered, and ready-to-drink milk products. "Our skimmed milk powder and UHT products primarily come from New Zealand, Australia and USA," he said. About 53,000 babies in China have fallen ill due to the melamine-tainted milk formula. Four infants have died. - Cheryl Arcibal, GMANews.TV
