DOH eyes egg sandwiches behind school canteen poisoning
MANILA, Philippines â Spoiled egg sandwiches may have been the reason that 112 students got sick and had to be hospitalized in Tondo, Manila, last week. This was announced on Wednesday by Eric Tayag head of the National Epidemiology Center of the Department of Health. The report was aired over Balitanghali, the noontime newscast of QTV. The egg sandwiches taken from the canteen of the Jose Corazon de Jesus Elementary School could have been contaminated with salmonella bacteria, which is usually found in poultry products, like eggs. The children were taken to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center and have already been allowed them to go home. According to earlier reports, the childrenâs fecal test results showed that they were stricken with gastroenteritis and amoebiasis, probably caused by drinking nonpotable drinking or eating spoiled food. - GMANews.TV
