Damage caused by Nina reaches P29.498 million


MANILA, Philippines - Damage caused by typhoon Nina (Hagupit) reached almost P30 million as of Wednesday night, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said. In its report Wednesday night, the NDCC also said the number of affected families rose as reports from other parts of the country came in. The NDCC said the estimated cost of damage to property was P29.498 million, including P29.040 million to infrastructure and P458,000 to agriculture. Also, the number of affected families rose from 28,565 families or 112,873 people to 42,237 families or 184,359 people from 675 villages in 63 towns and eight cities in 10 provinces. The death toll remained at eight. At least 20 were listed as injured and 15 were reported as missing. As of Wednesday, only one lane in the Manila North Road Ilocos Norte section was passable due to landslides. The Tawi Overflow Bridge in Penablanca, Cagayan remained impassable as of Wednesday. In Cordillera, only one lane of the Pico-Lamtang Road was open due to landslide. The Acop Kapangan-Kibungan-Bakun Benguet 1st was closed to traffic due to mudslides. The Itogon Dalupirip Road was closed to traffic also due to landslides. The Bontoc-Baguio Road, Claveria-Calanasan Road and Balbalan Pinukpok Road were also closed to traffic. In Romblon, the Ipil Bridge and Pili Bridge were washed out and eroded, and remained closed to traffic due to landslides. In Davao Oriental, the Mati-Maragusan Road was closed to traffic due to road slip. - GMANews.TV
