EDSA, Commonwealth Ave first targets of LTO patrols
MANILA, Philippines - Two "killer roads" in Metro Manila will be the first targets of nightly patrols against bus racing, in the wake of a fiery predawn mishap in Quezon City Tuesday. Land Transportation Office (LTO) head Alberto Suansing said Wednesday he has instructed his field enforcement division to keep tabs on Epifanio delos Santos and Commonwealth Avenues. "Sa gabi mag-field ng enforcers na tumahak sa EDSA, at sa Commonwealth. Yan ang killer roads yan (I ordered our enforcers to cruise along EDSA and Commonwealth Avenue at night. These are the killer roads we have so far identified)," Suansing said in an interview on dzRH radio. EDSA covers the cities of Caloocan, Quezon, Mandaluyong, Makati and Pasay, while Commonwealth Avenue is in Quezon City. Both areas are notorious for mishaps involving speeding buses, Suansing said. Suansing initially ordered nightly patrols at EDSA Tuesday, in the wake of a mishap where a Mercedes Benz sedan burst into flames after being hit by speeding buses. Killed in the incident was Dr Francisco Sarabia. His passenger was severely injured. Police are now investigating one of the bus drivers to verify claims the bus that hit Sarabia's car was racing another bus. - GMANews.TV
