School officials suspect tuition as motive in school break-in

MANILA, Philippines - Tuition payments were likely the target of armed men who broke into the St. Scholastica's College in Malate, Manila, shortly after midnight Thursday, school officials said early Friday. Radio dzBB's Louie Garcia reported that school prioress Sr. Mary John Mananzan said the break-in occurred during the enrollment period. Mananzan said they are willing to provide police copies of footage from their closed-circuit television (CCTV) system so police can identify the men in the break-in. Two of the school's security guards had been invited to the Manila Police District to shed light on the incident. On the other hand, police are not discounting the possibility that an inside job may have been involved in the incident. Armed men clad in camouflage uniforms broke into the campus at 1:30 a.m. Friday. Initial investigation showed that one of the suspects knocked at the gate. When a guard opened it, all the men forced their way inside and immediately disarmed the guards. Sensing that responding police were coming, the robbers exited through Gate 4 of the school and fled using two Toyota Revo vehicles, one of which had plate number XKL-257. The suspects also took four service firearms and mobile phones of the security guards, an initial report said.- GMANews.TV
