Another fetus found inside church compound in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A fetus was inside a church compound in Manila early Thursday morning, the 13th unborn to be reported in the national capital in more than two months. Police said the male fetus was found at around 1:30 a.m. inside the compound of Sta. Cruz Church, which is near Quiapo, where abortifacients are known to proliferate. Detective Paul Dennis Javier of the Manila Police District’s Homicide Section said the unborn baby was reported by Luzviminda de Guzman, a 23-year-old vendor. De Guzman told police that she was about to enter the church when she noticed a plastic container beside the compound. When she checked, she found the fetus, described to be about seven to eight months old. The vendor immediately informed the church staff, who in turned reported the incident to the police. The latest discovery came just a month after church officials expressed concern over the increasing number of fetuses being dumped around the city, apparently victims of abortion. It was also the second fetus left on a church compound in just a month. Earlier last month, a four-month-old fetus was also discovered in front of Manila Cathedral in Intramuros. Last Oct. 21, a newly born baby girl was dumped in trash by her mother in Binondo, Manila Several weeks prior to the discovery, a three-month-old fetus was discovered inside a Nescafé bottle at the train railing along Kahilum 1, San Andres Bukid, Manila. Last Sept. 29, a four-month-old fetus was also discovered in front of a house in Sta. Cruz, Manila and another was discovered inside an apartment in Ermita, Manila on Sept. 25. On Sept. 17, a female fetus was discovered inside Jolibee food store in Carriedo, Quiapo, Manila. On Sept. 4, a fetus was also discovered inside the female restroom of Isetann mall along Recto, Manila . Prior to that, two fetuses who were embracing each other were dumped by an unidentified man in a busy street also along Claro M. Recto Avenue, Manila . A five-month old fetus was also found inside the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila, believed to have been aborted inside the rest room of the campus at least two months ago. - GMANews.TV
