PNP to strictly monitor programs - police exec

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) will soon be conducting field inspections to ensure that all the projects and programs of the organization will be properly implemented down to the lowest police unit in far-flung areas of the country. The assurance was made by Police Director Leopoldo Bataoil, chief of the Directorate for Police Community Relations, who added that the move is part of the improvements being gradually implemented by the PNP following the Senate hearing on the so-called "euro generals." “You will see our Chief PNP in the next few days conducting field inspections, pagdalaw sa mga malalayong istasyon ng PNP at ipapasulong very strongly ang Integrated Transformation Program natin," said Bataoil, referring to PNP chief, Director General Jesus Verzosa. Senate foreign relations committee chairman Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago earlier accused the PNP of another scam, this time regarding the recruitment of new police officers. Santiago said that under the “PNP trainees’ scam," the budget for recruits is converted into “savings" because the recruitment process starts by midyear even as the budget allocated for Congress for it covers an entire year. This, she added, could have been the source of the 105,000 euros brought by former PNP comptroller Director Eliseo de la Paz to Moscow. On Monday, Bataoil tagged the recruitment program an "old" issue. He added that there was never an anomaly on the matter. “Based on records, kung meron mang budget na nakalaan sa recruitment system, kung ilan lang ang nakarecruit yun lang ang nirerelease na budget," said Bataoil.- GMANews.TV
