Former El Nido vice mayor murdered

Unidentified men killed early Monday morning a former vice mayor of El Nido town in Palawan inside the victim's own home, GMANews.TV learned. Radio station dzBB's affiliate in Palawan reported that the assailants murdered former vice mayor Edwin Vidal at about 3 a.m. Monday. Vidal died on the spot. Town Mayor Edna Lim has ordered local police to conduct an investigation into the incident. The radio report quoted one Nestor Fernandez, who is reportedly eyeing the mayoralty seat next year, as saying that the murder was "politically motivated." Fernandez was supposedly planning on having Vidal as his runningmate for the 2007 polls. El Nido is a cluster of islands in the northernmost tip of Palawan, known internationally for its high-end resorts and limestone cliffs.-GMANews.TV
