Kidnap-slay suspect falls in Cainta 7 years later

MANILA, Philippines - A suspected member of a kidnap-for-ransom gang wanted for kidnapping and killing the son of a judge was arrested in Rizal province over the weekend - more than seven years after the offense was committed. Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported that local police, acting on a tip from a bounty hunter, tracked down and arrested Onofre Surat at the junction in Cainta town last Saturday. Surat was tagged in the killing of Mark Bacalla, son of judge Marciano Bacalla, on May 8, 2001. He faces charges of kidnapping-for-ransom and homicide.
