Fallen electric posts worsen traffic flow in Binondo

MANILA, Philippines - As if the Christmas shopping rush at Manila's Divisoria district was not enough, four fallen electrical posts worsened the already tight traffic in Manila's Binondo district Thursday. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported that the accident which led to the toppling of the electric posts Wednesday night forced the rerouting of traffic, particularly along Quintin Paredes and Ongpin Streets. On Wednesday night, a 40-footer trailer truck rammed and toppled four electric posts along Quintin Paredes Street, forcing authorities to close off the street to traffic. A television report, however, said 6 electric posts were toppled following the accident. Quintin Paredes is a key thoroughfare in the city's Chinatown district, used by passenger jeeps in heading for busy Divisoria district. Traffic had already been tight in the Binondo area during the run-up to Christmas, as shoppers flock to Divisoria which is known for bargain buys. - GMANews.TV
