2-year-old dies in Las Piñas fire
MANILA, Philippines - A two-year-old boy perished after a fire engulfed his home in Las Piñas City, police said on Monday. In a telephone interview with GMANews.TV, PO2 Geuel Capuz of Las Piñas City police identified the victim as Nathaniel Ryan Vicente of Sun Valley compound in Manuyo Dos, Las Piñas City. Police said the child was sleeping on the second floor of the house when a fire that was believed to have originated from an overheated electric fan inside the boy's room broke out around 12:30 p.m. The victim's grandparents, who were staying on the first floor of the house, failed to get the child out before the fire spread, said the police. "Di nila napansin na nasusunog yung bahay. Kapitbahay nakakita (They didn't realize the house was on fire. It was the neighbor who saw it)," said Capuz. The fire was put out by the city's fire department around 1:30 p.m. The total amount of damage was placed around P300,000 to P500,000. - Johanna Camille Sisante, GMANews.TV
