Pinoy youth urged: Be more active in leadership

MANILA, Philippines - As the hope of the motherland, the youth should learn to play a more active role in leadership, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said. The CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) reminded Filipino youths of their potentials of becoming the future leaders of the country. "The youth have the kind of wisdom that only themselves can say when talking about what they expect of the Church," said ECY chairman and Masbate Bishop Joel Baylon, who said the youth should play a more active role in the Church especially on matters concerning them and the whole Church. In a statement on the CBCP website, he added that as future youth leaders they are also encouraged to become part of the planning activities in the parish. Baylon urged priests and lay leaders to acknowledge the present role of the young people and how they can help in building God's kingdom on earth. He said young people are looking for Christ in their lives and that they should also become living witnesses of Christ by knowing Him through the Eucharist, liturgy and Sacred Scriptures. Also, he said young people have their own faith stories to tell and these will be an inspiration to many youth who are still in their journey of finding Christ in their lives. In the meantime, Baylon said the commission is developing its own website in a bid to get in touch with more young people who are still seeking Christ. The commission is also planning to make use of text messaging as tool of evangelization, he added. - GMANews.TV
