MMDA eyes turning Manila's U-belt into wifi zone
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now considering plans to turn Manila's university belt into a wi-fi zone, a radio report said. Radio dzBB reported that MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando plans to use wi-max technology to provide wi-fi services to students at the city's university belt area. But Fernando said not only students will stand to benefit from the proposed wi-fi zone, as police using Internet-based tracking systems may also benefit. On the other hand, Fernando said they plan to continue cleaning up some 50,000 kilometers of roads in Metro Manila this year. He said this will allow faster response by emergency workers, including police cruisers, ambulances and fire trucks. The fast response aims to ensure response within five minutes, he said. - GMANews.TV
