Gov't considering closing down review centers -CHEd chief
Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) chairman Carlito Puno said on Tuesday that the government is considering closing down review centers and leave it to colleges and universities to prepare their own students for licensure examinations. Puno, in a press briefing in Malacañang, said the two ideas so far being eyed include reviewing the centers' curriculum or to let the colleges and universities administer the review. Puno said the CHEd is consulting with the stakeholders, including the review centers, the association of nurses, and the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). A leak in the nursing licensure exams has prompted President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to announce that she will issue an order placing review centers for the nursing board under the CHEdâs jurisdiction. Puno said he doubts whether there would be a leak once the college or university runs the review center. He noted that fees charged by review centers are hefty, ranging from P30,000-P40,000. The CHEd chief said many reviewees chose review centers that they think are getting more tips. -GMANews.TV
