NFA sold 27 million rice sacks in 2008 – report

MANILA, Philippines – The National Food Authority (NFA) sold about 27 million sacks of rice in 2008 when the supposed shortage in rice supply hit the country, a radio report said Thursday. Radio dzBB’s Mao dela Cruz reported that the sale of the NFA rice, which was sold at P18.25 per kilogram to poor Filipinos, was part of the government’s measures to help the indigent weather the increase in rice prices in 2008. The report quoted NFA administrator Jesus Navarro as saying that their cumulative rice sales last year reached P24 billion. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
