Dacer lawyer unfazed by Dumlao's habeas corpus bid

MANILA, Philippines - The camp of the family of slain PR man Salvador "Bubby" Dacer was unfazed over the bid of former Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao to fight off extradition with a habeas corpus bid. Lawyer Demetrio Custodio Jr. said in a radio interview Friday that Dumlao's extradition will be delayed by only "one to two weeks." "It's just a matter of time. The habeas corpus case is a very short proceeding, siguro one to two hearings lang kung may ibibigay na karapatan si Mr. Dumlao to stop the extradition proceedings," Custodio said over radio dwIZ. [It's just a matter of time. The habeas corpus case is a very short proceeding involving one to two hearings only, to determine if Dumlao can stop his extradition.] Dumlao's camp reportedly posted a $100,000 cash bond with a US court hearing his plea. Dumlao, one of the police officers linked to the Dacer-Corbito case, was initially to return Sunday. But Custodio admitted there will be "complications" if the US court grants Dumlao's plea. He did not elaborate. "Kung hindi, tuloy pa rin, made-delay lang 1-2 weeks. Kung ma-stop, which I think is very unlikely, I think magkakaroon ng kaunting komplikasyon [If the court denies his plea, his extradition will be delayed one to two weeks. But in the unlikely event it is granted, I think there will be some complications.] On the other hand, he said he sees no delay in the return of former Senior Superintendent Cezar Mancao II, adding Mancao may even return earlier than Dumlao. "Ang mangyayari niyan baka mauna makauwi si Mr. Mancao bago makarating si Mr. Dumlao [We may have a scenario where Mancao returns earlier than Dumlao]," he said. - GMANews.TV
