‘Minor’ killed, 8 hurt in stabbing spree inside Pasig police station

MANILA, Philippines - A “minor" was shot dead after figuring in a stabbing spree where he stabbed at least eight people - including a policeman - inside the Pasig City police headquarters and in a nearby village before dawn Monday. SPO1 Rogelio Baltazar said Jonathan Timplado tried to attack him after stabbing two inmates and desk officer SPO2 Rodolfo Salamanca, and two village watchmen. “Nasa loob ako ng CID nang narinig ko nagkakagulo sa selda. Paglabas ko nandoon na ang suspect may hawak na kutsilyo at tatlo ang sinaksak sa may front desk kasama ang pinakasarhento-de-mesa namin [I was inside the Criminal Investigation Division when I heard a commotion near the cells. When I went out I saw the suspect, who already stabbed three people including our desk sergeant]," Baltazar said in an interview on dzBB radio. An updated report by radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen had it that eight people were injured in Timplado's stabbing spree. Baltazar said he pursued the fleeing Timplado to San Nicolas village, and asked village watchmen there to help him corner the suspect. Even when cornered, he said Timplado tried to attack two village watchmen, stabbing two of them. The two suffered relatively minor injuries, he said. “Ako naman ang haharapin na sasaksakin. Nailagan ko, binaril ko na… [When he tried to turn on me to stab me, I was forced to shoot him]," he said. He said Timplado sustained at least three gunshot wounds, mostly in the chest area. Baltazar said Timplado was to be placed in a cell for minors because his father claimed he was only 17 years old. Before the incident, Timplado was arrested by local anti-crime watchmen for a stabbing incident involving Mark Joseph Brequillo, 22. Brequillo, of Cainta town in Rizal, sustained four stab wounds and was reported in critical condition at the Pasig City General Hospital. Baltazar said police had just removed Timplado’s handcuffs and were about to frisk him before locking him up when he said he had money in his underwear. However, he drew a blade from his cargo-type pants and used it to attack. He then stabbed four inmates, and stabbed Salamanca when he tried to stop him. - GMANews.TV
