Escudero: Thailand’s turmoil shows Chacha not needed in RP
House minority floor leader Rep. Francis Escudero (1D, Sorsogon) on Tuesday said the best argument that can be used to oppose the Arroyo administrationâs plan to change the Charter, is to use the current political turmoil in Thailand as an example. âProponents of Chacha in the administration camp said our problem in politics would be erased once we shift to parliamentary system. Now look at the situation in Thailand which is using the parliamentary system," Escudero said. Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday dismissed calls for his resignation as tension grew after thousands of Thai protesters marched to his office and vowed to rally every day until he steps down. Escudero said there is a common denominator in the political crisis that is happening now in the Philippines and Thailand. âBoth leaders (Thaksin and President Arroyo) were both accused of corruption and abuse of power." Escudero said Thaksinâs political crisis proves that changing the system of government into parliamentary cannot be use as a shield to hide the truth about the allegations of cheating, lying and stealing hurled against President Arroyo.-GMANews.TV
