Seized firearm shipment for Abu Sayyaf use?

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities on Tuesday night seized three boxes of gun parts in South Harbor in Manila believed to be intended for the notorious terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo said the parts were later assembled into six M14 rifles and a cal. 22 rifle. A bolt assembly for an M60 machinegun and three magazines for M16 rifle were also found. “If you have those [M14 rifles], you might be into something. M14s are for elite units of the Armed Forces. We suspect that it is intended for the Abu Sayyaf. This could be intended for members of the terrorist group," he said. The shipment was consigned to one Radzmal Arijan of Baliwasan, Seaside, Zamboanga City through 2GO cargo forwarder. The shipper was identified as one Vanessa R. Lopez. Arevalo noted that Zamboanga City is near Basilan and Sulu provinces, which are known bailiwicks of the Abu Sayyaf. The shipment was intercepted at the Aboitiz Transport Inc.(ATI) terminal at South Harbor, Manila. Philippine Coast Guard chief Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said ATI personnel through scanning discovered the contents of the boxes. They later alerted the authorities about it. - GMANews.TV
