Yearly Brigada Eskwela kicks off on festive mood

MANILA, Philippines - The yearly “Brigada Eskwela" campaign kicked off on a festive mood Monday with a motorcade from the Department of Education (DepEd) main office in Pasig City to southern Metro Manila. Radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus and officials of parents-teachers associations joined the motorcade that was to visit Taguig and Parañaque Cities. In Baclaran Elementary School, fireworks and balloons marked the start of the Brigada Eskwela, according to a report by dzBB’s Allan Gatus. At the school, parents also passed along tools for cleaning and repairing school facilities. Lapus and Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. joined the activities at the school, the report said. Parents taking part in the motorcade called on their fellow parents to join the sprucing up of schools in time for the opening of classes on June 1. Brigada Eskwela involves a communal action on cleaning up school facilities and making minor repairs in time for the start of the school year. - GMANews.TV
