NDCC update: ‘Isang’ displaces 248K people, closes 6 roads in NLuzon


MANILA, Philippines - As it left Philippine territory Saturday, tropical storm "Isang" (international code name: Molave) displaced at least 248,057 people in 24 towns and seven cities in six provinces and caused closure of six roads in northern Luzon. The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Sunday that at least six roads in northern Luzon remained closed due to road scouring and landslides. It also said the death toll stayed at four, while it said one was injured. NDCC said the storm displaced 56,055 families or 248,057 people in 269 villages in 24 towns and seven cities in six provinces in Ilocos, Central and Southern Luzon, and Metro Manila. Of these, 327 families or 1,550 people are still being served inside and outside evacuation centers in Taguig City and in Rizal province. Damage to property included five houses destroyed and three damaged in San Mateo, Rizal. The NDCC also reported damage to roads and bridges worth P380,000 in Laguna. In Ilocos, flooding affected 6,752 houses, 545 of which were isolated. But the NDCC said flood waters had subsided. On the other hand, six roads remained closed to traffic - two in Cordillera and four in Mountain Province. In Abra Cordillera Administrative Region, the Kalinga-Abra Road Balbalan Section, was closed due to scouring. The Tabuk-Banaue Road Okwa Lubo section was closed due to road slide. In the Mountain Province the following roads were closed: the Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Tue, which was closed due to boulder slide; Baguio-Bontoc Road (Sabangan-Gonogon Section), of which some areas are landslide-prone; Talubin-Barlig-Natonin Paracelis Road, closed due to a minor landslide; and the Banaue-Mayotao-Agi-Alista-Isa Road was closed due to road slide. - GMANews.TV
