Seniors, disabled get parking benefits in Makati
Senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) are exempted from a three-hour parking limit in the central business district in Makati City. The Makati City government said the city council approved Ordinance 2009-029 to benefit the two marginalized sectors. âWe in the city government are concerned about the welfare of our seniors and PWDs. This ordinance is but a small way to make things easier for them," Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay said in an article on the Makati City Web portal. Under a previous ordinance, 97-175, motorists can park in the central business district for only three hours, after which they must vacate the area or incur penalties. The new ordinance exempts senior citizens and PWDs provided that they are driving or are on board the vehicle. Senior citizens and PWDs must also present a Senior Citizen or PWD card issued by the government to the parking attendant. They however will still have to pay the parking fee for the first three hours. The fee for the excess hours will be settled upon leaving the parking space, according to the ordinance. - GMANews.TV
