LPA nears Mindanao again; floods, landslide alerts up

Flash floods and landslides continue to threaten Eastern Mindanao as a low-pressure area (LPA) moved closer into the area early Sunday morning. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA was estimated at 160 km east of Mindanao as of 2 a.m. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa also said the northeast monsoon is still affecting Extreme Northern Luzon. "Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Eastern Mindanao, which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. Pagasa added Extreme Northern Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered light rains while the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast and north with slight to moderate seas except during thunderstorms. Pagasa also said strong to gale-force winds will affect seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas. "Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. - GMANews.TV
