FBI deputy director visits RP

A high-ranking official of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), visited the Philippines March 10-11 as part of a trip through East Asia. FBI Deputy Director John Pistole met with senior officials of the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to discuss ongoing law enforcement cooperation between the United States and the Philippines. He also discussed joint U.S.-Philippine efforts in countering international terrorism and other transnational challenges. The U.S. and the Philippines share a growing partnership on counterterrorism and law enforcement issues. This partnership is founded on the 1994 U.S.-Philippines Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. The treaty has helped cooperation in investigations in both countries. Since it took effect, the 1997 U.S.-Philippines Extradition Treaty was instrumental in extraditing 11 people from RP to the U.S., and 8 from the U.S. to the Philippines. The United States provides more than U.S. $12 million in assistance, equipment, and training to Philippine law enforcement and police agencies each year.-GMANews.TV
