Irate AFP chief Bangit walks out of interview
If you canât stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. This seemed like what newly installed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Delfin Bangit did Monday when interviewed about his alleged rift with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa. A fuming Bangit âwalked out" of an interview after a female television reporter asked him why he and Verzosa were not talking with each other during the 113th anniversary celebration of the Philippine Army in Fort Bonifacio. âYan ang hirap (Thatâs the problem). You do not say anything, mali ka (youâre wrong). When you say something, mali ka (youâre still wrong). So my PIO [public information officer] will take care of everything," Bangit said before walking out from the group of reporters interviewing him. He then boarded his vehicle. Earlier in the interview, Bangit cried foul over media accusations that he is President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyoâs lackey whose appointment to the military top post is part of a grand plan to rig the results of the May 10 elections. âI feel that you are you [media] are leading us to infighting," he said. Bangitâs alleged rift with Verzosa supposedly stemmed from the PNP chiefâs statement that he would not follow his military counterpart should the latter work to have President Arroyoâs term extended beyond June 30. Bangit is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) batch 1978, where President Arroyo is an honorary member. He was appointed AFP chief last March 10. - KBK, GMANews.TV
