Coast Guard sets clean-up drive in national fight vs dengue
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo directed all Coast Guard units to help in the national fight against the killer disease dengue, by leading clean-up operations in their communities. The Coast Guard District Western Visayas immediately organized the clean-up drive in Barangay Obrero, Iloilo City because of a dengue outbreak in Western Visayas . Members of the Western Visayas Maritime Environmental Protection Group, Medical Service, Field Station, and Special Operations Group helped clean canals and drainage systems that are potential breeding areas of dengue-carrier mosquitoes. Equipped with brooms, spades, shovels and garbage bins, PCG members cleaned the streets, canals, and drainages in the area. Residents also helped the PCG in its clean-up drive. Barangay Obrero Chairman Noel Panaguiton expressed his appreciation to the PCG for helping the community in fighting the spread of dengue.
