PAGASA keeps track of possible storm
State weather forecasters are keeping track of a low-pressure area east of the Visayas that may potentially become a cyclone in the next 24 hours. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA is still in the South China Sea as of Monday morning. "Sa ngayon wala pang binabanggit na ito ay magiging bagyo. Nasa South China Sea siya, east of the Visayas (For now there is no indication it will become a cyclone. It is still in the South China Sea, east of Visayas)," Pagasa forecaster Ben Oris said in an interview on dzBB radio. When asked when the LPA can intensify into a cyclone, he said, "sa ngayon mga 24 hours di pa siguro (we will have to keep watch over it for the next 24 hours. We are not sure at this time)." Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, it will be code-named "Juan." On the other hand, weather site Typhoon2000 (www.typhoon2000.ph) indicated a tropical cyclone formation over the Philippine Sea is "possible between October 12-15, 2010." As of 2 a.m., Oris said the LPA was estimated at 430 km east of the Visayas and embedded in the intertropical convergence zone affecting Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao. He said Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies. - RSJ, GMANews.TV
