UPLB killings: 2 dead in 2 days
By AMITA LEGASPI, GMANews.TV Another man was killed inside the campus of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB) Tuesday, a day after the chief mechanic of the school's Agricultural Machinery Development Program was shot dead in front of his workplace. The latest fatality was identified as Renato Del Valle, 39, contract worker of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and a resident of Sitio Sipit, Sto. Domingo village, Bay, Laguna. Chief Superintendent Nicasio Radovan, police director for Region 4-A, told GMANews.TV that Del Valle was murdered at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at upperâMM IRRI Ricefield in Maahas village, Los Baños. The IRRI office is situated inside the UPLB campus. Del Valle sustained four gunshot wounds to his body, a report by dzBB radio said. His assailants have yet to be identified. The victim was taken to the Pagamutang Pangmasa ng Laguna in Bay town, but attending physician Bryan Cabigting pronounced him dead on arrival. Radovan said Los Baños police are now conducting follow-up operations and investigations for the possible identification and arrest of suspects. Last Monday, Juan Alborida, 46, had just disembarked from his motorcycle and was about to go to his work at around 10:30 a.m. when the gunman, armed with a .45-cal. pistol, approached him casually and shot him several times. The suspect then boarded a parked motorcycle and escaped toward nearby Bay town. Alborida suffered at least six gunshot wounds to his body and was declared dead-on-arrival at a local hospital. Senior Inspector Aldrin Abila, Los Baños police chief, said it was possible that the suspect had trailed the victim from his house which was a few meters away from UPLB.-GMANews.TV
