Ebarle: Aguilar's husband tipped off cops to get Jason Ivler jailed
Challenged to a fist-fight by Jason Ivler's mother, Renato Ebarle Sr. told Marlene Aguilar-Pollard that she should instead direct her anger at her husband, British national Stephen Pollard, because he was really the one who had tipped off authorities who arrested her son, who is accused of killing the younger Ebarle. âDapat ang hamunin niya (Aguilar) ang asawa niya dahil I am honestly saying this: Pollard has a hand in the capture of Ivler," Ebarle said Friday night after he and Aguilar were both interviewed by news anchor Jessica Soho on GMA News TV program âState of the Nation (SONA)." Ivler was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives in a bloody shoot-out in the residence of the Pollards. He faces murder charges for allegedly shooting dead Renato Ebarle Jr. in a fit of road rage on Nov. 18, 2009. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has begun on Friday investigating reports that Ivler has been having parties inside the jail, with women and liquor. He said it was Pollard who convinced his own British bodyguard to inform the authorities that Ivler was hiding out at the Pollard residence. He added that Pollard convinced the NBI arresting team to conduct the raid at a time when Pollard's 8-year-old daughter was out of the house.
Marlene Aguilar on prison parties, food, fighting Soho interviewed Aguilar before Ebarle. Asked whether her son got VIP treatment behind bars, Aguilar replied: âYes and no. Dalawang kaso lang ang nakakulong sa city jail: may pera at walang pera. (There are only two types of inmates in city jail, those with money and those without. Twenty percent have money â this means they get to dine well with good food and drinks. Inmates without money dine on dried fish, but inmates with money feast on adobo and roasted pig. But none of the inmates in city jail get to drink alcoholic drinks.) Aguilar said parties are commonly held at the Quezon City jail to celebrate the birthdays of as many as six to ten people every day, feasting on pancit (noodles) but liquor is still prohibited. Aguilar said she does not know who uploaded on Facebook the pictures showing her son partying behind bars, adding that Jason Ivler has no internet access but has more Facebook fans than actor Piolo Pascual at almost 93,000. On how her family copes with all the public criticism, Aguilar said: âI know the truth, I know my son. Is it wrong to desire happiness for my son? If I could buy Jupiter, if I could buy the moon, the sun and the stars, to make my son happy I will do it. If that is wrong then condemn me!" Soho asked Aguilar if she had any message for the families of the two people her son supposedly killed â Ebarle Jr., for whose murder Ivler stands accused, and Nestor Ponce Jr. Aguilar replied, âMy son did not kill these people. God decides who lives or dies, and God decided that Jason Ivler should live. You question that and you question God." Aguilar said her son is suffering and in pain due to the gunshot wounds he sustained after shooting it out with NBI operatives. âIf you think he is defeated because heâs in pain, youâre wrong," she said. âYou canât break Jason Ivlerâs spirit. You canât break my spirit, Ebarle."
She repeated her challenge, âYou want to fight me one-on-one? Show the world what kind of man you are, fight me!" âWag na po tayong umiyak kasi bumenta na yon, suntukan na lang tayong dalawa. Malay mo, masapak mo ko, eh di, maligaya ka (Crying wonât do us any good, so letâs just come to blows. Hitting me might even make you feel better)," she taunted Ebarle. When it was his turn to be interviewed, Ebarle said âHindi ko naman gawain na makipagsuntukan, wala sa kultura ko âyan (It is not my nature to engage in fist-fights)." He clarified that his intent was not to give city jail inmates a hard time, noting that these inmates have not yet been convicted of crimes because their cases are still being tried before the courts. Ebarle said he was just calling on the BJMP to be both fair & strict with the application of their own rules regarding access to inmates in city jails considering the "security risks." He said he called attention to the photographs posted on Facebook of Ivler partying behind bars to stress that relatives should not be given âunlimited access to Jason." He pointed out that jails have designated visiting areas and so inmates should not be allowed to receive visitors in their cells. Ebarle said that the Facebook photos will be used by the Department of Justice panel of prosecutors not only to oppose Ivler's motion for hospitalization but also to get âsome people sanctioned" for overly lax jail authorities.â With reports by FRJimenez and Aya Yuson, GMA News
