Report: Bus firm suspended for death of mother, son in Pasay accident

A bus firm has been suspended for at least 30 days after one of its units hit and killed a 40-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son in Pasay City Wednesday night. Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Manuel Iway said the 30-day suspension order will apply to Genesis Bus, radio dzBB reported early Friday. Iway said the LTFRB will also give Genesis a show-cause order where it will be asked to explain why its franchise should not be cancelled due to the incident at the corner of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Taft Avenue. He said the LTFRB has also ordered the bus firm’s insurance agency to shoulder the burial expenses of victims Amelia Caribo, 40; and her son Alexander, 7. Police had said Alexander died on the spot while Amelia died at a nearby hospital where she was rushed. Initial investigation showed the victims were crossing the corner of EDSA and Taft Avenue when a Genesis bus driven by one Rodrigo Pagulayan hit them. Tan said Pagulayan claimed he did not immediately see the victims because the area was dark. -- LBG, GMA News
