Subic case promulgation moved to Dec. 4

Three days before the originally scheduled date, the Makati regional trial court on Friday rescheduled the much-awaited promulgation of the Subic rape case as it needed more time to review evidence and testimonies. In a one-page order signed Friday, Judge Benjamin Pozon of the Makati RTC-Branch 139 said that, "the court is constrained, much to its regret, to reset the promulgation of judgement in this case." The promulgation has been reset for December 4 at 1 p.m. Pozon said he needed more time "considering the voluminous records of the case, the number of witnessses, and the length of their respective testimonies, and the unusual number of documentary not to mention object evidence presented by the parties." He said the previous November 27 date gave him "limited time" and that he still needed to "intelligently and judiciously consider the significant and material issues raised by the prosecution." Women's advocacy groups have continued to launch protest rallies in support of alleged victim "Nicole" as the November 27 date drew closer. Four American servicemen are accused of sexually molesting the 23-year-old Filipino complainant inside the Subic Bay Freeport on the night of Nov. 1, 2005. -GMANews.TV
