DepEd starts back-to-school clean-up

The Department of Education started early Monday its clean-up of schools in time for the opening of the new school year on June 6. In Quezon City, several teachers arrived early at the Bago Bantay Elementary School to clean desks and classrooms, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. The clean-up activities started well before the Department of Education's motorcade was to head there, the same radio report said. The DepEd motorcade to be led by DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro was scheduled to proceed from the DepEd main office in eastern Metro Manila to the Bago Bantay Elementary School. Also taking part in the clean-up activities are local government units and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

But in other schools, the clean-up started as early as last weekend, according to a separate report on dzBB. The Brigada Eskwela program aims to ensure pupils start the school year on a clean note especially in public elementary and high schools. It also involves parents, teachers and school staff who clean up the schools. — RSJ, GMA News
