'Reming' weakens slightly; Signal 4 in Bicol provinces


Super typhoon "Reming" (international code name Durian) weakened slightly Thursday morning and slightly changed course but remained a potent threat to provinces in the Bicol region. The state weather bureau said that as of 4 am Thursday, "Reming" was estimated to be at 80 kms east of Virac, Catanduanes, and is likely to make landfall in Bicol at about 9 am. It packed maximum sustained winds of 190 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 225 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 17 kph. In its 5 am advisory. the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pag-asa) said "Reming" may make landfall over Catanduanes Thursday morning and then move toward Camarines Norte. "Reming" is then estimated to be 60 kms almost east of Metro Manila Friday morning; 290 kms west of Metro Manila Saturday morning; and 600 kms west of Metro Manila Sunday morning. Signal 4 is up over Catanduanes, Albay, and the Camarines provinces. Signal 3 is up over Sorsogon, Burias Island, Quezon, Polillo Island, and Marinduque. Signal 2 is up over Masbate, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Aurora, Bataan, Metro Manila, and Northern Samar. Signal 1 is up over Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island, Zambales, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, Isabela and the rest of Samar, and Biliran Island. Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signals have been alerted against flashfloods and landslides, respectively while those living in coastal areas under public storm Signals 2, 3 and 4 are advised to move to higher ground due to possible storm surge. - GMANews.Tv
