Aquino's choices for next Prisons chief down to two

President Benigno Aquino III’s choices for the next head of the Bureau of Corrections have been narrowed down to two. Although he did not identify the candidates, he said he is having a hard time choosing as he is eyeing to put one of the candidates in two positions. “There’s one candidate actually for two positions and I have to make an announcement soon on this. He’s actually needed in both of the slots," Aquino said at a press briefing Tuesday. “So we are trying to fill in parang get the other person to fill in the slot that will not be filled up by this candidate for BuCor," he said The President, however, refused to mention the second slot he is considering for the BuCor chief candidate. “Sa July pa kasi ia-announce yung other position so I’m sorry I’m not ready to mention it," he said. Former BuCor chief Ernesto Diokno resigned from his post following the controversy involving the alleged VIP treatment being extended to convicted killer Antonio Leviste, a former Batangas governor. Aquino had earlier said that he might appoint Diokno to another position. Diokno served as Western Police District chief during the term of the late President Corazon Aquino, the incumbent President's mother. — Amita O. Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
