Rains, thunderstorms loom over Palawan, Visayas, Mindanao

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms loom over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao due to an inter-tropical convergence zone, state weather forecasters said Saturday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also said the rest of Luzon may have isolated rains and thunderstorms. “Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. It added light to moderate winds blowing from the East to Southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the Northwest to West over the rest of the country. Meanwhile, an article on a local weather website said a tropical cyclone formation is possible along the Philippine Sea east of Visayas or Luzon between July 5 and 10. Typhoon2000 said models as of Friday afternoon indicate the developing tropical disturbance – a low-pressure area – had been spotted off the Palau Islands. “This system remains weak but some models develop it into a Tropical Cyclone within the next three to five days, heading towards the Batanes-Taiwan area," it said. — LBG, GMA News
