Violence mars demolition in Caloocan City

Violence marred the demolition of houses at a residential area in Caloocan City on Wednesday as residents tried to "protect" their homes from the demolition team. On Tuesday, at least 70 houses in the area had already been demolished. In his report Wednesday, radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad said residents barricaded the area where their houses were located while others hurled objects at the demolition team.

At least one person was reported injured after being hit by the debris being thrown, the report said. But the demolition team, accompanied by anti-riot police, managed to push through with its work, the report added. Earlier, a dzBB report said a nearby public school near the residential area in Barangay 168 was forced to suspend classes in the morning as residents tried to barricade their houses. — RSJ, GMA News
