7 robbery suspects pull off Caloocan jailbreak
Three months after five inmates used butter to literally slip out of their cell, seven inmates of a Caloocan City police station escaped from their cell after their guards went home Monday night. Radio station dzBB reported Tuesday that a manhunt has been launched for the seven inmates, while the jail guard faces administrative sanctions for neglecting his duty. The police initially identified the seven as Harlem Ramos, Arturo de Lima, Roderick Ancancelado, Roger Mijares, Jason Jabaan, Roland Robles and Gilbert Mariano, all facing robbery charges. Authorities said they want to grill Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Erwin Hipolito, the jail guard on duty at the Caloocan City Police Sub-station 1, who supposedly went home for still unknown reasons Monday night. As of 9 a.m., the police said they still could not contact Hipolito through his mobile phone. The police added that another policeman on duty at the sub-station, who was not immediately identified, also went home Monday night, leaving no one to guard the sub-station. Last September, five inmates escaped from a detention cell of the Northern Police District in Caloocan City amid the height of a heavy downpour. Initial investigation showed one of the inmates gained the trust of police officers manning the station and was given chores such as running minor errands and even checking the lock on the detention cells. The five escaped from their cell at the NPD's District Police Investigation Unit (DPIU) by destroying some of the metal bars. Police investigators recovered two wrappers of butter, showing the inmates may have even spread butter over some parts of their bodies so they could "literally slip through."-GMANews.TV
