LPA moving over West PHL Sea, but floods still threaten Luzon

A weather disturbance initially expected to become a cyclone is now over the West Philippine Sea but may still cause flash floods and landslides over parts of Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area (LPA) was estimated at 290 km west-southwest of Iba, Zambales, as of 8 a.m. "The LPA is now over the West Philippine Sea," PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said in an interview on dzBB radio. He added the LPA has a very slim chance of becoming a cyclone. PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory said the LPA is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). It warned of possible flash floods and landslides over the eastern parts of Luzon. "This weather system will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Luzon and Visayas. However, wide spread rains are expected over the Eastern section of Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. — LBG, GMA News
