While the satisfaction ratings for President Benigno Simeon Aquino III rose in the third quarter of 2011, those of other government officials, including Vice President Jejomar Binay, dipped slightly during the same period, according to a new poll of the Social Weather Stations (SWS). According to the SWS, which released its new findings on Wednesday on its media partner BusinessWorld, Binay's rating went down by six points but remained in the "very good" category. Based on SWS' September 4-7 survey, Binay's rating dipped from +69 in June this year (78 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied) to +63 (72 percent satisfied minus 9 percent dissatisfied). The BusinessWorld report quoted a spokesman of Binay as saying the vice president's ratings were still good but could be considered as a “challenge to work harder." SWS satisfaction ratings are classified as:
+70 and above as “excellent"; +50 to +69, “very good"; +30 to +49, “good"; +10 to +29, “moderate", +9 to -9, “neutral"; -10 to -29, “poor"; -30 to -49, “bad"; -50 to -69, “very bad"; and -70 and below, “execrable." Higher ratings for Aquino On September 26 this year, the SWS said Aquino’s ratings bounced back to "very good" territory, with seven of the 10 Filipinos surveyed expressing satisfaction with his performance. The SWS said Aquino’s latest rating was six percent up from his 64 percent rating in June. Aquino's score showed a 10-point gain in Aquino's net satisfaction rating to a “very good" +56 (percent satisfied minus percent dissatisfied) from June’s “good" +46. On the other hand, the ratings of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile stayed in the “good" category but fell by four points to a net +35 (52 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) from +39 (56 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) four months ago. Enrile’s ratings had been consistently at good levels since June 2010, the SWS noted. House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr.’s ratings fell six points to “neutral" +9 (33 percent satisfied and 24 percent dissatisfied), from a “moderate" +15 (37 percent satisfied, 22 percent dissatisfied) previously. Chief Justice Renato Corona’s latest score stayed at “neutral" zero (28 percent satisfied and 28 percent dissatisfied, compared to the previous 27 percent dissatisfied and 27 percent satisfied. On the other hand, the SWS’ third quarter poll results contrast with those of Pulse Asia conducted August 20 to September 2 this year, which showed higher approval ratings for all five officials: Aquino, by six points; Binay, two points; Enrile, eight points; Belmonte, six points; and Corona, nine points. Little change in ratings of govt institutions Meanwhile, the latest SWS survey also found little changes in the net satisfaction ratings of state institutions. The SWS said the Senate’s rating rose by three points to a “very good" +50 (63 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) from a “good" +47 (64 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied). The House of Representatives’ satisfaction rating stayed at a “good" net level of +31 (49 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied). The Supreme Court saw a three-point gain to +29 (49 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied), still “moderate" from the previous +26 (50 percent satisfied, 24 percent dissatisfied). The ratings for the Cabinet also stayed “moderate" as a whole at +24 (44 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied), compared to +25 (45 percent satisfied, 21 percent dissatisfied) last June. - VVP, GMA News
