MMDA reminds motorists: Number coding in effect again

With the two long weekends now over, it’s time to observe the number coding scheme again, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reminded motorists Tuesday. Amid questions from netizens on the matter since Monday night, the MMDA posted reminders on its Twitter account stressing the number coding is again in effect. “Number coding is in effect today, November 8, 2011 (Tuesday)," it said. The number coding scheme is an attempt to manage traffic in Metro Manila's main thoroughfares, amid the growing number of vehicles in the metropolis. Earlier, the MMDA suspended the number coding schemes for the long weekend from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, and the last long weekend on Nov. 7. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles are barred from major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the last number of their license plates. Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are banned on Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. — RSJ, GMA News
