NDRRMC to go on red alert Dec. 22

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) will go on red alert from December 22 to January 2 to ensure the people's safety during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The red alert status requires concerned agencies to report to NDRRMC their contingency measures for emergency situations that may arise during the holidays. In an interview over radio dzBB, NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said the agency will also go on blue alert starting December 18, a week before Christmas Day.   Ramos said he wants to make sure there are enough people manning their posts, radio dzBB's Divine Caraecle reported on Tuesday night.   Ramos reminded agencies under the NDRRMC that they should remain alert and make sure people are safe during the holidays.   During the last week of the year, the yearly Christmas exodus to the provinces are expected to peak even as more revelers are expected to light firecrackers. - VVP, GMA News
