PAGASA: Good weather expected on Santo Niño feast day

Except for isolated rain, good weather can be expected during the celebration of the feast of Santo Niño this weekend, state weather forecasters said on  Wednesday.   The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier said there is no cyclone or disturbance near Philippine territory at this time.   "Good weather is expected on the 14th and 15th aside from isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms," PAGASA said in a post on its Twitter account. Feast of the Santo Niño   Catholics in Metro Manila and Cebu are expected to spend this weekend paying homage to the Santo Niño.   In Manila, residents in Manila's Tondo district are holding their fiesta to honor the Christ Child.   The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has readied medic and traffic teams for the occasion to address possible traffic jams and injuries.   On the other hand, authorities in Cebu City are on full alert for the Sinulog festival.   Some 10,000 police and military troops have tightened security especially at venues of the festival, radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported earlier.   Also, a 21-day total gun ban has been in force since Friday last week to prevent violence.   The Sinulog is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich history.   Its main festival is held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu. - VVP, GMA News
