Blackout engulfs 4 Sorsogon towns in darkness

IROSIN, Sorsogon – At least four towns in the province of Sorsogon were in total darkness Tuesday evening after a power substation of the Sorsogon Electric Cooperative failed to function properly due to ashes from the erupting Mount Bulusan. Robert Fortez, head of the provincial electric cooperative, said power to the substation located at the village of Trece in Bulan town was cut by the National Transmission Commission Tuesday morning. Fortez said Transco informed the electric cooperative only late in the afternoon that power could not be restored immediately. Ashes from Mount Bulusan penetrated the insulators of Transco’s power lines, Fortez said. The towns of Magallanes, Bulan, Santa Magdalena and Matnog remained in darkness as of posting time. - GMANews.TV
