QC RTC judge appointed to Court of Appeals

President Benigno Aquino III has appointed a Quezon City judge to the Court of Appeals, replacing Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes who was appointed to the Supreme Court in August last year. The appointment of Judge Maria Elisa Sempio-Dy as CA associate justice was announced Thursday by presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda at a press briefing in Malacañang. Sempio-Diy graduated from Ateneo de Manila in 1986 with an undergraduate degree of AB Psychology in 1986. She received her Bachelor of Laws degree from San Beda College, graduating third in the class. Sempio-Diy had been QC RTC judge since 2005 prior to her appointment to the appellate court. Before that, she was a Metropolitan Trial Court judge since 2001.   Sempio-Diy is a daughter of family law expert and retired CA justice Alicia Sempio-Diy.   Lacierda also announced the appointment of Carmelo Santiago as member of the board of directors representing the foreign investors in the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority.   Santiago will serve until June 16, 2014, he said. – Amita O.
