Porsche-driving customs clerk driven to resign
Facing the stark prospect of an internal agency probe, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) clerk who drives a Porsche may have come to a dead end and chose to resign.
Paulino Elevado IV tendered his letter of resignation from the bureau's Internal Administration Group (IAG) on Wednesday, Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino "Ruffy" Biazon said.
But Biazon has yet to act on the letter which, he said, did not the state the clerk's reasons for resigning.
The BoC chief surmised that the IAG's plan to suspend him might have driven Elevado to resign.
Biazon said the IAG sent Elevado a suspension letter after the Finance department's Revenue Integrity Protection Service (RIPS) filed administrative charges against him for Serious Dishonesty and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Service under Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service (RRACS). Elevado was also charged for criminal violations of Section 7 of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and Section 8 of Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees.
He also faces charges for attempted murder filed against him by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for firing his gun at a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old student last Jan. 21.— MRT/ELR/KG, GMA News
