Name mix-ups, mispronounced words on 25th day of Corona trial

Name mix-ups provided some amusement during the 25th day of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona in the Senate on Tuesday.   At one point, chief defense counsel Serafin Cuevas mistakenly mentioned the name of a former Philippine president when he was actually referring to former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s lawyer.   "These videos showing Ferdinand Marcos... (laughs)… Ferdinand Topacio…" Cuevas said, drawing laughter from the gallery. Later, he would also mistakenly refer to Mrs. Arroyo as "Mrs. Arrayo."   Cuevas, a retired Supreme Court justice, was cross-examining ABS-CBN video librarian Rochelle Mendez when he made the faux pas.   Mendez was being asked regarding the video of the network's interview with Mrs. Arroyo’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio after the Supreme Court stopped in November the implementation of a watch list order against Mrs. Arroyo.   Even Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile had his own “slip of the tongue” incident.   It happened when he asked ABS-CBN cameraman Edmund Llosala if he was the one who took footage of Mrs. Arroyo when she tried to leave the country via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 shortly after the issuance of the TRO.   "You took video of Mrs. Aquino? (laughs) Sorry, slip of the tongue," Enrile said.   The crowd inside the Senate session hall also chuckled at Cuevas' unique way of pronouncing "label" when talking about the labels placed on video cards presented in court. He pronounced the word "lah-bel."   "She [Mendez] can't even identify who made those lah-belling, your honor," Cuevas said.   Cuevas also pronounced "Superintendent" as "Shoo-perintendent"; "compact disc" as "compact dish." The lawyer, as in past proceedings, also pronounced "your honor" as "yer ehner" and "showing" as "zhhowing."   Cuevas' actuations immediately sent social networking sites abuzz.   Twitter user @alesandrodiaz said: "I heart serafin cuevas <3 Sucha cutie! Compact dish!"   @Renier Louie Bona said: "@Serafin_Cuevas calls Ferdinand Topacio as Ferdinand Marcos via slip of the tongue."   Meanwhile, Twitter user Jerson Pabinguit said Cuevas "must be tired... 'Gloria Arrayo-ay... Arroyo'... this is funny... Lolo Serafin haaay." – Mark D. Merueñas/KBK, GMA News
